Lettuce – Iceberg

Iceberg lettuce typically takes about 82 days to develop firm, medium-sized heads with crisp, light green leaves.

Iceberg lettuce thrives in cooler temperatures and should be planted in well-drained soil with full sun exposure. It's best to sow seeds in early spring or late summer to avoid extreme heat, which can cause bolting.

Space the plants about 12 to 18 inches apart in rows that are 18 to 24 inches apart. This spacing allows for adequate air circulation and room for the heads to develop properly.

Harvest Iceberg lettuce when the heads are firm and have reached the desired size. It's important to pick them before they start to bolt or become bitter, which can happen if they remain in the ground too long.

After harvesting, remove any damaged outer leaves, wash the heads thoroughly, and dry them completely. Store the lettuce in the refrigerator, ideally in a perforated plastic bag or wrapped in a damp paper towel inside a container, to maintain crispness and extend shelf life.
