(a.k.a. Early Coreless, Scarlet Nantes Coreless) (Daucus carota) 65-68 days.       A French heirloom introduced in 1855. The Scarlet Nantes Carrot is sweet, juicy, and nearly coreless. Stout, blunt roots grow to about 4-6″, bright red-orange in color, and full of flavor. High in vitamins. A great choice for fresh eating, freezing and juicing.

Planting Instructions for Scarlet Nantes Carrot Seeds

Scarlet Nantes Carrots grow best in well prepared, deeply worked, loose soil. Direct seed Carrots in full sun or part shade (in hot climates), from early spring-summer , ¼ – ½” deep, approx. 4 seeds per inch, in rows 12-16″ apart. Germination occurs in 6-21 days at temperatures of 50-75° F. Thin the plants to 1-3″ apart. To prevent green shoulders you can hill 1-2″ of soil around plants when 7-10 leaves have formed. A good mulch of organic material (such as grass clippings) is very beneficial once carrots are established. Harvest when Heirloom / Open Pollinated carrots have brightened in color, when color has deepened.

We’ve grown these for several years now and are always pleased to harvest tons of carrots. We’ve tried other varieties but these have such wonderful smooth skins which make them so easy to clean, easy to peel and they are beautiful in color. It seems the hotter/dryer it is, the sweeter they get but even in a normal year they are sweeter than the others; very good flavor.

Tasty and easy to grow. Smaller size = easier canning. grew side by side with Chantenay Red Core and this one produced more and tasted better.
